Welcome to Dovecote Primary School and Nursery. Thank you for sending children to school, smartly dressed in their school uniform. It is INSET Day on Monday 15th April. We look forwards to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 16th April.
Safeguarding
At Dovecote, Safeguarding is at the forefront of everything we do. All staff have the responsibility to protect children from harm and ensure that children are happy, healthy and achieving their full potential.
As defined in KCSIE (Sept 2023), safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child is defined as:
- protecting children from maltreatment;
- preventing the impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development;
- ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and
- taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) are trained to manage any concerns that may arise. Any safeguarding concerns investigated by DSLs are investigated thoroughly and support is used if necessary. Where there is a risk of harm or maltreatment, DSLs will refer concerns to the appropriate agencies to ensure children and families access the support needed.

Keeping Children Safe in Education
At Dovecote we work hard to educate children about keeping themselves safe through the curriculum, shared assemblies, PSHE, RSE lessons and visitors who are invited to speak to children on safeguarding topics.
Online Safety
Most children now have access to devices with online apps and games. This can be difficult in regards to what and who they have access to. To help support with this please look at our online safety section of our website which has lots of tips and advice on understanding the safety aspects of popular games and apps and how to, if necessary, implement online safety measures to keep them safe online.
What should I do if I have a safeguarding concern?
We ask all parents and carers to help with safeguarding too. If you have a concern about a child, parent or a member of staff then please contact us immediately and ask to speak to one of our DSLs. If you feel a child is at risk but you cannot reach us or it is out of school hours, you can also refer to Children and Families Direct on 0115 8764800. If it is out of hours and you believe the child is in imminent danger you should contact the police.
