Year 1
Welcome to Year 1
Our Dovecote Curriculum is driven by the need to prepare our children for lifelong learning. At Dovecote, we offer a rich and vibrant curriculum, built on solid foundations, which is engaging, challenging and accessible to all. Through this curriculum, we develop the essential knowledge, skills and understanding that are the building blocks for later life.
Reading is at the heart of our themed curriculum approach, providing all children with the opportunity to experience and explore a wide range of high-quality books from nursery to year six. Books have been chosen very carefully to ensure there is an appropriate amount of challenge and complexity. We also strive to provide children with opportunities to see themselves within the literature that they experience, and thus, books are selected carefully to reflect the multicultural and diverse community around us.
Children will do many exciting activities around these books each term๐
The books your child will be exploring this year are:
Please help and support your child at home by taking an interest in which books they are exploring in school. They will also come home with a reading book of their choice and one which is matched to their reading level.
Please click on the year group Termly Newsletter link, which will provide much more information about what is happening each term. If you have any questions, please pop down and see us or email us. We are all happy to help!๐
